Parish History
St. Charles Borromeo is a small but vibrant Catholic community in Ahoskie. In the 1940s, Catholics in Ahoskie were served by one priest who also took care of Tarboro and Scotland Neck. Beginning in 1941, Masses were celebrated in a family home on Wednesday mornings for the small Catholic congregation. In 1943, a suitable location was settled on for a permanent church, and through a grant from the Catholic Extension Society, the property was purchased and named St. Charles to honor the donor. The first pastor took up residence in 1943, and the original church was dedicated Sunday, October 15, 1944. By 1975, it was time to build a new church. A new site was chosen, and the groundbreaking took place on July 9, 1977. The new church was dedicated on September 11, 1980.
